These holding tanks do not discharge wastewater to surface or ground water or onto the surface of the ground, but are designed and constructed to facilitate collection of the wastewater for ultimate disposal at another site.

Holding tanks are available in many different shapes, sizes and materials. Holding tanks ranging in size from 1,000 gallons to 2,000 gallons are most common, however, tanks can be as large as 10,000 gallons. While holding tanks are not recommended for installation on newly developed lots, there are some developed lots which do not have adequate area for a sewage treatment system. Holding tanks are constructed of the same materials and by the same procedures as septic tanks.

Holding tanks may be allowed by the local unit of government as replacements for existing failing systems which pose an imminent threat to public health and safety, or on existing lots. Holding tanks are prohibited for new construction unless approved by the local unit of government. For small boats there is an increased demand for flexible holding tanks, they can be easily installed in small spaces difficult to access.

Regular pumping of holding tanks comes at a cost. Holding tanks should be supplied with aeration. Holding tanks are meant to hold a volume of sewage and facilitate the removal of sewage for disposal in a municipal lagoon or other suitable location.

Water and waste holding tanks are available in a variety of standard and custom shapes and sizes for commercial and military use. Composite water and waste holding tanks are lighter in weight and offer much improved resistance to corrosion. Holding tanks are not specifically an on-site wastewater facility but is often regarded as an on-site wastewater facility.

Holding tanks are essential for long term storage of human waste. Pumping waste from the holding tank is no problem. A welded plastic cabinet carries the holding tanks and water delivery manifolds. Water from the holding tanks is channelled to a collection sump for subsequent delivery to the life support systems located in the rack below.

There are two common designs for holding tanks. One puts the tank partly inside a barn and the other puts it completely outside the barn. Fill the holding tanks with water and add the proper amount of tap water conditioner to each tank. This procedure enables the fish to adjust to the pH in the holding tanks.

All holding tanks can be covered and they vary in the degree of shading from direct sunlight. I assumed that up to three quarters would either have holding tanks or go to shore to use theouthouses. These losses occur mainly from improper methods of seining and as a result of improper aeration, temperature control, or overcrowding in holding tanks. To prevent holding tanks from becoming contaminated with fungi and harmful bacteria, either of which may cause disease in minnows, the tanks should be kept clean and should not be over-crowded.

The used solutions and waste water were discharged to four on-site waste water holding tanks. A local welding business, for example, helped install and rig the holding tanks, in addition to providing the oxygen tanks and regulator needed for the system. Only temporary holding tanks for commercial facilities can be approved, and only then for a maximum of two years operation.

All drainage is directed to two underground active-liquid stainless-steel lined sumps and transferred via sump pumps to stainless steel holding tanks, each of a working volume located above ground in the workshop area. After monitoring, the contents of the holding tanks are periodically transferred for routine treatment by pumping their contents. A facility for dumping or emptying your black water and gray water holding tanks.
